Neo Tokyo is built on a landfill in Tokyo Bay, therefore space is limited, with the city growing upwards rather than expanding horizontally. Bridges, elevators and high viewpoints, as in this cut, are important to achieve the impression of a deeply structured, multi-layered cityscape.

This artwork is a superb rendering of Neo Tokyo’s architecture painted by Hiroshi Ohno one of the foremost art directors in the anime industry. The original final production background is made of two layers. The upper layer is painted on celluloid film while the base layer is painted on paper. We decided to reproduce this artwork as a digital montage.

While the motifs for our poster prints are cropped for an immaculate appearance without framing and passe-partout, our high-grade line comes with all the patina that the artwork gathered during its use in the production process. In the case of this production background of AKIRA’s cut no. 207 this means that the top border shows considerable signs of wear and tear.

Besides the sheer beauty of the piece it’s these traces of the original production process that we enjoy most. By purchasing a solegraph high-grade print you don’t just collect an artwork but a part of anime history.

Each print of our high-grade editions is made to match the original artwork as close as possible. The colors are radiating, the size is just the size of the original, the texture of the paper matches the one used by the artists. This perfection is honoured by the artist's signature on each piece.

The frame is not included.
